I tweeted last week that the Ruby community isn't as nice as they like to say they are, and it's sad. I still stand by that, however with the caveat that there are some truly wonderful people in the community, they're just not often causing a bunch of drama.
This is a fun post from Laurence Tratt showing how with a basic API and a small number of scripting tools you can write something simple - in this instance, to show him how long his washing machine has left before it's completed!
One of my closest friends was over visiting from New Zealand and managed to get brunch with him and his young family. It was easily one of the highlights of the year so far! Technology helps bring people together for sure, but there's nothing quite like hanging out physically with someone. I don't think VR will ever beat that.
