Down with the sickness.

The whole family has been ill at various times this week. Last weekend I had a temperature hovering around 38°C, and both Riina and have also had high temps at various points. This week has had a bit of juggling of childcare and work schedules, and it was horrible to see suffer like that for the first time. Thankfully we're through it now, so here's hoping for a period of wellness for the foreseeable.

I've given my personal site a bit of a spring clean. Falling back to the system font I hope will speed things up even more, and I've switched to a centered column rather than it being left aligned. I'm pretty sure nobody visits anyhow so I doubt many will be impacted, but y'know - a change is as good as a rest.

Most people seem to have not liked the "For You" feed that Twitter have recently added, but I've found it to be great! I try not to follow too many people and actively curate my feed, but I've followed at least 10 new people since following the feed, all of which I hadn't heard of before.
I'm not sure why mine is largely interesting, whilst friends feeds are full of transphobia and MRA's. -
I'm wanting to pick up the side-project I started over Christmas again soon. I got too deep into the tooling of the thing rather than actually releasing anything. Maybe I release what I've got and see how the reception goes? I still think it's a helpful thing for the community.

At work we have a development team meeting every other week, and next week I'm going to be giving a talk on pattern matching in Ruby. It's something I've not had a huge opportunity to use in anger, so I'm really excited about digging in and using examples from our own codebase! Tom Stuart's talk on the subject at Brighton Ruby was fantastic; unfortunately the video hasn't been uploaded yet, but when it is it's a must watch!

Speaking of work, I've recently started on a project that I'm incredibly excited about. I can't say much at this stage, but there are some very real challenges, large amounts of data, and new (to me) technology.

Didn't manage to finish a book this week largely due to the aforementioned sickness. Not too far off though, so will wrap that up next week.
